DONALD BARTLETT

Doctor

Dr. Bartlett was the original physician at Virginia Addiction Medicine in Centreville, VA. He has now returned to continue in his practice of Addiction Medicine, with the goal of helping as many people as possible who are struggling with addiction, especially the growing opioid addiction problem. Originally Board Certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Bartlett now has over 15 years experience in the field of Addiction Medicine. During this time he has also served as Medical Director for Addiction Medicine Services for Fairfax County.

SU FAIRCHILD

Doctor

Dr. Su Fairchild has been practicing for 18 years, and has previously done primary care and hospital care before transitioning to the specialty of Integrative Medicine. She is trained in Dr Walsh’s Nutritional protocols, and can use nutritional supplements to help mood. She is also familiar with Chronic Lyme, mold biotoxicity, various thyroid disorders, and SNPs including MTHFR, COMT, and CBS; her preference is to treat the whole person, not just isolated conditions.

AKUA SAFO

Dr. Safo had her residency training at University of Maryland Medical Center, Midtown Campus in Baltimore. With her keen passion in helping her patients, she pursued further training during her residency in addiction medicine to better equip herself in serving her patients. With her easy going personality, she is able to win the trust of patients while working closely without compromising the needed care they require.

KATHRYN DURBIN

Board- Certified Physician Assistant

A nationally board-certified Physician Assistant, Kate pulls from past experience in the areas of intensive care, orthopedics, and primary care practice. She received a dual Bachelor of Arts from Trinity International University in Chicago, Illinois in Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy as well as a Master of Science from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia in Physician Assistant Studies. She enjoys the opportunity to provide optimal care for each patient while looking at the whole person. Kate is a loving and devoted mother to one son, and continually seeks to better her knowledge and understanding of medicine, not only for her patients but for her family as well. Her desire to broaden care for her patients lead her to complete additional training in addiction medicine. From a belief that medicine should be individually tailored and a passion for educating patients on whole-body health, Kate looks forward to delivering the best care possible and developing lasting relationships with her patients.

EMILY LEE

Nurse Practitioner

Emily has been a nurse practitioner for 20 years, having worked in a variety of settings, including primary care, urgent care, nursing homes and hospitals. She became drawn to addiction medicine after a family friend unexpectedly died from an overdose. She learned about buprenorphine treatment and knew she had to be involved in treating people with addiction, not only for her calling as a healthcare professional, but also for the sake of her friend who never got the chance to be on treatment.

KIM MAKONNEN

Certified Substance Abuse Counselor

Kim Makonnen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in 2004 at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She received her master’s degree in Human Service Counseling with a specialization in Addictions and Recovery from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Kim is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and currently lives in Virginia.She has a plethora of experience working with all populations along with working in several settings such and residential, in-patient, drug court, and outpatient services. Kim has been a licensed substance abuse counselor since 2007 and now she is a Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of Virginia. Kim believes in the philosophy of treating the whole person, meaning that a person’s spiritual, emotional, physical, and social well-being is important for a successful recovery. Kim is a strong advocate for respecting her clients and providing them with the best treatment or counseling that fits their specific needs.
